Drakes PC

While all of you are aware that celebrities, despite their wealth, get expensive shit for free all the time, today we are going to take a look at a gift in particular. Partly because it is a gaming PC, but also because we have the receipt on it as well.

Esport guy Jake Lucky tweeted this earlier today, and it certainly provoked a reaction:

The answers in the answers generally ranged from “It looks like shit” to “It’s hugely overpriced”, to “All that just to gamble” (more on that soon). The first feeling can be a bit much. I think this looks great! It’s a gaming PC, what do you expect, and the white lighting in these images is an infinitely more stylish look than the electronic clown car aesthetic you often see on these types of systems. I especially love the lighting around the fans, it’s a very “starship corridor” look.

It looks like something important from Alien Isolation, so I dig it

As for the price, there are some caveats here. The PC – which was put together by Paradox customs– was actually bought for Drake as a gift from the streamer Xposed. (Paradox tells Kotaku that they “hashed out” the component selection together.) In the time between the order was first placed and the PC arrived, the market for many expensive pc parts crashed for some reason. Throw in some Canadian taxes Xposed had to pay, and Paradox says the actual cost in July 2022 is somewhere closer to $ 6,500. Which, you know, is still ridiculously expensive for a PC, but it’s not $ 8000 either.

How do we know that? Paradox tweeted this earlier today, which practically also gives us a chance to take a look at what kind of specifications you can expect to see in a PC that costs more than my last three desktops combined.

As for who paid for the system and why, Xposed actually chose this particular system for itself, and then says that he ordered a second for Drake because he had helped the rapper with a previous PC, but at that time had to save and get him a “pre-built from Best Buy because it was short notice”:

In December 2021, Xposed signed a partnership agreement with Stakea shady and controversial online gambling and sports betting the website as Drake just happens to continuously stream and promote simultaneouslyand who shared this new PC arrival on social media.
