Samsung turns Intel and TSMC into major chip manufacturing technologies that will one day power our gaming PCs

Samsung is the first chipmaker to launch a completely new technology, one that will eventually be used by all major chipmakers and find its way into all kinds of computer chips, including those from Intel, Nvidia and AMD. It’s called gate-all-around (GAA), and it changes the way transistors, the building blocks of all our technological products, are made.

GAA (sometimes referred to as GAAFET) is what will replace FinFET technology that is in widespread use today. It is a new technology that uses a gate wound around several transistor channels. It is quite different from FinFET, which uses a single fin as a channel with a port connected on three sides.
